Kingston Bagpuize and Southmoor Bowls Club is located in the village of Kingston Bagpuize with Southmoor, six miles west of Abingdon. We are a thriving, club with the advantage of an all-weather floodlit green which is available for bowling every day of the year. We welcome new members to the Club, whether they are experienced bowlers or complete beginners. Coaching is available for those who would like it.
In a normal season we play in several leagues (details in this website), as well as friendly matches, Club competitions and casual 'roll-ups;'. Necessarily, the Club has been closed for most of the last twelve months, but the Covid-19 rules are being relaxed gradually. We were able to begin informal bowling for members from 29th March, and over the following three months we shall move towards normality.
Meanwhile, we are holding two OPEN DAYS on the weekend of 22nd/23rd May, from 11 am to 3 pm on each day. Anyone who is interested in playing bowls is invited to come along – just drop in on either day, or both. Please wear or bring soft-soled shoes (trainers are fine). We will provide the bowls on the day, and our members will be there to explain the game, and to show you on the green how it’s played.
For the next few Friday evenings after the Open Days we shall be holding training sessions at the Club. These will be entirely free, and whilst we hope that people will want to join the Club, there will be no pressure to do so.
We are a friendly club – in common with most bowls clubs, the majority of our members are retired, but we welcome men and women of any age. Indeed, new younger blood would be particularly welcome. This website will tell you something about the Club, but if you would like to talk about learning to play bowls, do email or telephone us – details are on the contacts page.
The Club has been closed for most of the last twelve months, but we are now able to have socially distanced bowling for members, operating the Rule of Six.
Our league programmes will be delayed until the second half of the season, but after 21st June, all being well, we shall be able to operate as we did in 2019!
